Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the MADANI government has pushed Bumiputera empowerment more strongly while keeping access to education and economic opportunities open to others, and he rejected claims of elitist policies that marginalise Bumiputera communities. [1]
Speaking at MARA's 60th anniversary celebration at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, Anwar said 90% of Bumiputera children receive opportunities through the matriculation programme. He said students who score 10As will get automatic entry into matriculation regardless of race, while Bumiputera quotas stay in place. [1]
“In the same time, 90 per cent of Bumiputera children are also given opportunities through the matriculation programme, which reflects the government’s inclusive approach,” Anwar said. He added: “Therefore, in debates, do not only select one aspect without looking at the overall policy comprehensively. Do not create a perception of a zero-sum game competition.” [1]
Anwar also told MARA to submit a draft of proposed amendments to the Majlis Amanah Rakyat Act 1966 within 3 months. “Submit the draft to me within three months,” he said. [1]
MARA chairman Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the draft amendments to the 1966 law have already been completed and are now undergoing stakeholder engagement. [1]
