UMNO deputy president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Mohamad Hasan plays a key role in resolving the administrative crisis in Negeri Sembilan's government. He denied allegations that Mohamad Hasan was the mastermind behind the crisis, calling such claims unfair and saying Hasan frequently holds discussions with him to find a solution [1].
Ahmad Zahid said 14 Barisan Nasional assemblymen had agreed to continue supporting the Negeri Sembilan Unity Government to maintain political stability. "There is no question of withdrawing to become the opposition. That has never been an issue," he said. Zahid added that the appointment of the Menteri Besar is not decided by UMNO alone but requires consensus among coalition parties, especially Pakatan Harapan, which plays a central role in the Unity Government [1].
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also weighed in, saying Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun would remain in his position after receiving the consent of the Negeri Sembilan ruler. Anwar said Aminuddin would continue carrying out his duties as usual [1].
Ahmad Zahid made these statements during an interview with Bernama at UMNO's 80th anniversary celebrations on May 3. He described the political situation in the state as "benang telah kusut"—a tangled thread—indicating the complexity but reaffirmed efforts to untangle it [1]. On Tuesday and Thursday, Zahid reiterated that all 14 BN assemblymen had agreed to back the Unity Government, signalling a united front amid ongoing tensions [1].
Next steps will depend on ongoing consultations among coalition partners to ensure continued support for the state government and uphold the Menteri Besar's position.
