A 29-year-old unemployed man was remanded after a police chase across Penang on April 30 that allegedly damaged 12 vehicles over roughly 20 kilometers, authorities said [1].

The chase began at about 9 p.m. on Jalan Tanjung Bungah after the man’s vehicle was spotted driving suspiciously. Police ordered him to stop but he sped off, prompting pursuit along a route from Jalan Tanjung Bungah to Bayan Baru, covering approximately 20km [1].

During the chase, the suspect’s vehicle allegedly collided with 12 other vehicles. Twelve police reports were lodged by motorists claiming damage to their vehicles in connection with the pursuit [1].

The suspect was arrested at a house in Gelugor at about 8:30 p.m. on May 3 [1]. He was remanded until May 7 by Magistrate Shyahirah Abdul Salim under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 [1].

Videos of the chase including a 43-second clip have been widely circulated on social media [1].

The remand period is set to expire on May 7, when further court proceedings are expected [1].
