Malaysia's Inland Revenue Board (IRB) officially launched the e-Assessment Appeal service on the MyTax portal on June 1, allowing taxpayers to file assessment appeals or apply for extension of time under the Income Tax Act 1967 entirely online [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].
The new service replaces the previous manual, document-based appeal process and removes the need for taxpayers to visit IRB offices physically. Taxpayers can now submit their appeals or extension applications anytime, anywhere, and receive real-time online notifications regarding the acceptance, rejection, or approval of their requests [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].
The IRB highlighted that "among the new experiences for taxpayers include the ability to submit assessment appeals or applications for extension of time from anywhere and in real time" [1]. Individual taxpayers may use the individual taxpayer role on MyTax to submit appeals or extension requests, while company directors, authorised officers, and administrators of organisations such as cooperatives, trusts, and limited liability partnerships can do so through their respective MyTax roles [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].
However, the e-Assessment Appeal service excludes cases involving capital gains tax, withholding tax, or assessments emerging from investigation activities [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].
With this digital platform, taxpayers gain the ability to track the status of their appeals or extension applications online in real time, streamlining communications between the IRB and taxpayers [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].
