Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) said fare rates for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) shared on social media are speculative and do not reflect actual charges [1, 2, 3]. The official ECRL fare structure remains under discussion with stakeholders, including the Land Public Transport Agency (Apad), and has not yet been announced [1, 2, 3].
MRL said the final fare structure will be published by the Ministry of Transport after completing evaluation and approval processes [1, 2, 3]. The company urged the public not to assume or draw conclusions from unverified information. ‘‘Therefore, the public is advised not to make assumptions or draw conclusions based on information that has not been verified,’’ MRL said [1].
The ECRL will span 665 kilometres, linking the East Coast states of Kelantan, Terengganu, and Pahang with Selangor on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia [1, 2, 3]. Once operational, it is projected to reduce travel time between Kota Bharu and Gombak from about seven hours by road to roughly four hours by rail [1, 2, 3].
MRL expressed gratitude for public enthusiasm and said it hopes the fares will balance the interests of citizens and value for consumers. ‘‘God willing, the fares introduced will take into account the interests of the people while offering the best value to consumers,’’ the company said [2].
The ECRL is slated to begin operations in January 2027, according to the latest schedule [1, 2, 3].
