Malaysia raised TEKUN Nasional’s Bumiputera financing fund to RM1 billion from RM500 million after what KUSKOP said was an encouraging response from entrepreneurs, Minister Steven Sim announced on Monday. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Sim said the higher allocation is part of the ministry’s PowerUp 10K plan to strengthen Malaysian businesses and channel more funding to micro, small and medium enterprises. He said the RM1 billion fund should help entrepreneurs expand and cope with geopolitical and geoeconomic challenges. [1, 2, 3, 4]
TEKUN Nasional had already disbursed about RM360 million to about 20,000 micro and small entrepreneurs as of April 30, Sim said. The minister said the latest increase followed the strong take-up of financing applications, and that the fund had earlier stood at RM300 million before being lifted to RM500 million and then to RM1 billion. The government expects to channel RM15 billion through agencies under the ministry in 2026, reaching 400,000 entrepreneurs and cooperative operators nationwide. At the same event, 247 recipients received awards across 5 categories. [1, 5, 3, 4]
