Johor unveiled the Johor Economic Transformation Plan (JETP) on June 18, 2026, at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre, outlining 83 investment projects valued at RM167.4 billion across eight priority sectors [1, 2]. The plan aims to boost the state’s gross domestic product to RM260 billion and create more than 200,000 new jobs by 2030 [1, 3, 2].
The eight priority industries under the plan include health and pharmaceuticals, logistics, aerospace, tourism, agriculture, energy, electrical and electronics, and chemicals and petrochemicals [1, 2]. JETP comprises 32 strategic intervention initiatives designed to accelerate investment realization through consultations with private sector and public agencies [1, 2].
Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, caretaker Johor Menteri Besar, said the plan will benefit all 10 districts in Johor, not just the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone. He added, "JETP will drive the six core pillars of Maju Johor 2030, namely governance, economic development, social safety nets, basic facilities and needs, safety and sustainability, and youth development" [3].
JETP supports the Maju Johor 2030 economic development pillar by attracting high-quality investments, providing incentives, infrastructure, and fostering a business-friendly environment [1, 2]. It also includes social initiatives such as building 70,000 affordable homes under the Rumah Mampu Milik Johor (RMMJ) scheme, a RM500 million fund aimed at social mobility and poverty eradication, and various aid programs [3].
"When the economy grows, the people must feel it. When the state progresses, the people must enjoy it," Datuk Onn Hafiz said. "Therefore, the economic growth achieved must translate into better job opportunities, higher incomes, quality public facilities and a more prosperous life for Bangsa Johor" [3].
Lee Ting Han, a state economic official, said the interventions underwent a filtering process to focus on critical initiatives evaluated for economic impact and implementation ease. He noted, "This plan also aims to empower the workforce with skills and knowledge aligned with industry needs and to create quality job opportunities for the people, in support of inclusive and sustainable economic growth" [1, 2].
The launch event on June 18 marked the official start of JETP implementation, with progress milestones set over the coming years as part of Johor’s broader Maju Johor 2030 agenda.
