The Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court reported Tuesday that an AI-assisted judicial system helped judges in the city process cases 50% faster than before [1]. Developed over two years and launched in 2024, the system is described as China’s first intelligent judicial assistance tool using domain-specific large language models [1].

The court said each judge in Shenzhen handled an average of 744 cases in 2025, which is 249 more than the previous year and 261 cases above the Guangdong provincial average [1]. This rise in productivity correlates with the AI system’s deployment.

The AI tool covers 85 judicial procedures across civil, administrative, and criminal litigation, including case filing, reviewing, court hearings, and document preparation [1]. It is designed to streamline various steps in the judicial process, enabling judges to focus more on substantive work.

After successful results in Shenzhen, the court announced plans to extend the pilot system to courts in dozens of other Chinese cities, aiming to replicate the efficiency gains nationwide [1].
