Nvidia officially retired its classic Nvidia Control Panel app in May 2026 with the release of GeForce Game Ready and Studio drivers version 610.47 [1, 2, 3]. The Control Panel, which was first introduced in May 2006 alongside ForceWare 90 series drivers, had served users for 20 years across Windows XP through Windows 11 eras [1, 3, 4].
Starting with driver version 610.47, the Control Panel will no longer be installed by default on GeForce and Studio drivers. Users who perform a clean driver install will lose the classic Control Panel, but existing installs will remain unless manually removed. The app remains downloadable from the Microsoft Store, though no further updates or fixes will be issued [1, 2, 3, 5]. Nvidia said the Control Panel will continue to be supported for Nvidia RTX PRO professional GPUs until all professional features are migrated to the Nvidia app [2, 3, 6].
All actively supported Control Panel functions have been ported and modernized within the Nvidia app, which also unifies core features with those from GeForce Experience. The app adds new functionality such as driver update management and DLSS mode overrides, while running faster and more efficiently than the old Control Panel. Nvidia technical marketing editor Andrew Burnes said, “The NVIDIA app contains all of the modern functionality of the NVIDIA Control Panel available for GeForce RTX GPUs, and much more, while running faster and more efficiently.” [1]
The retirement coincides with new game support in driver 610.47, including titles like “007 First Light” and “Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight” [2, 3]. However, some users have raised concerns that the Nvidia app requires online login, can include ads, and may lag on unstable internet connections, unlike the standalone Control Panel [6, 5].
The Nvidia Control Panel had been a staple utility since 2006, providing direct control over GPU settings on Windows systems. The transition aims to streamline user experience by consolidating legacy features with new capabilities into a single app.
Users currently running the classic Control Panel can keep using it unless they perform a clean driver reinstall. Nvidia will no longer add features to the legacy app but will continue development within the Nvidia app. Support for professional features in the Control Panel will continue until full migration is complete for RTX PRO GPUs [5, 2].
