Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh was placed on the 10-day injured list on May 25 with a right oblique strain, the first time in his Major League Baseball career he has been sidelined on the injured list [1, 2].

Raleigh suffered the injury during Thursday’s game against the Houston Astros on May 21 when he exited in the ninth inning after feeling discomfort on the right side [1, 2]. The injury occurred following an eight-inning performance in a losing effort against Houston. [1, 2]

Earlier this season, Raleigh missed three games from May 2 to May 4 because of right side soreness, as a precautionary rest measure. [1, 2]

Before going on the injured list, Raleigh had played in 41 games during the 2026 season, batting just .161 with seven home runs, a steep decline from his record-setting 2025 campaign. [1, 2] Last season, Raleigh hit 60 home runs, setting records for most homers by a catcher and a switch-hitter in a single season. [1, 2]

Despite recent struggles at the plate, a Fox News report noted Raleigh broke a major league hitless streak, ending an 0-for-38 slump with two singles during the Mariners’ 10-2 win over the Astros earlier this week. [2]

To fill Raleigh’s roster spot, the Mariners recalled catcher Jhonny Pereda from Triple-A Tacoma [2]. The team will look to maintain catching depth as Raleigh begins his 10-day recovery.
