China ended the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics with 15 medals, its best ever at a Winter Games outside the country, after a final-day 1-2 finish by Gu Ailing and Li Fanghui in the women's freeski halfpipe. [1]
The Chinese team collected 5 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze medals in Milan Cortina. It sent 126 athletes, the largest delegation and most extensive participation by China at an overseas Winter Olympics, competing in 7 sports across 91 events. [1]
Su Yiming gave China its first gold of the Games when he won men's snowboard slopestyle on his 22nd birthday. He also served as China's flagbearer at the closing ceremony in Verona on Feb. 22. [1]
The total beat China's previous Winter Olympic record of 5 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze medals from Vancouver in 2010. China also pointed to the depth of its podium results, with medals spread across snowboarding, freeski and other events. [1]
Gu spoke emotionally after her gold medal run, saying: "I didn't promise her that I was going to win, but I did promise her that I was going to be brave like she has been." She said she drew strength from her late grandmother, who died during the Games. [1]
