Square Enix revealed Final Fantasy VII: Revelation as the third and final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy at Summer Game Fest 2026 on June 5, 2026 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. The game is scheduled for release in spring 2027 across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2 platforms, ending the previous timed PlayStation exclusivity [6, 7, 8].
Revelation will cover the latter half of the original Final Fantasy VII storyline, continuing the remake’s unique multi-threaded narrative focusing on Cloud and his companions’ final confrontation with Sephiroth [2, 3, 5, 8]. It features the largest open world in the series to date, with fully connected continents rather than divided regions, allowing greatly expanded exploration compared to the previous installment, FF7 Rebirth [4, 9]. The new world is expected to be more than twice as large as FF7 Rebirth’s, which itself had an installation size of 145 GB [10, 11, 9].
Fans will see new playable characters Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind join the active party for the first time in the series [10, 11, 4, 5, 7]. The battle system has been upgraded significantly with the FITS system, enabling characters to switch roles and combat styles depending on their gear or costumes, enhancing player customization and tactical options [12, 5, 7].
Director Naoki Hamaguchi stated the team is focused on delivering a polished, finished product at launch, avoiding a half-finished experience. He said, "We absolutely won't release the third game as a half-finished product. I'm determined to polish it to the point where I can proudly say 'I have completed the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series.'" [12, 11, 5, 8] He also emphasized that player choice is central to the design, aiming to encourage actual playing over passively watching streams. [12]
The game will include iconic locations such as Snow Mountain, large-scale summon battles, and story cinematics about three times longer than FF7 Rebirth [10, 2]. Hamaguchi described the battle experience as the most in-depth and smooth real-time system in the series history by integrating lessons from the previous two games [5].
Producer Yoshinori Kitase conveyed, "This story’s destination carries 30 years of my feelings for this work. But this story isn’t concluded by us developers. It needs players to experience and engrave it into memory to elevate it into a new 'legend'." [8] The publisher also released 22 high-definition screenshots on June 6 showcasing graphics, character designs, and environments [7].
Square Enix staff confirmed on June 6 that Revelation will conclude the remake trilogy, bringing the narrative and gameplay arcs to a close [8]. The simultaneous multi-platform launch in spring 2027 promises to deliver all accumulated stories and emotions in their most ideal form, Naoki Hamaguchi said. [8]
