China's Ministry of Transport said on Tuesday it expects 1.52 billion cross-regional trips during the upcoming five-day Labour Day holiday, a record surge for the period. The forecast works out to about 304 million trips a day and is 4% higher than the same holiday last year. [1]
Road travel will dominate the holiday rush. The ministry said road trips should account for 91.6% of all journeys. It also projected around 64 million vehicles a day on the highways, roughly twice the usual level. [1]
Tourism demand remains strong, and officials are focusing on boosting consumption during the break. That demand is feeding a sharp rise in vehicle rentals. The average daily car rental volume nationwide is expected to reach 700,000, up 30% year on year, according to Gao Bo, deputy head of the ministry’s transport services department. [1]
